If so you might have messed up with your loot settings or are just looking at the outside crates and not the ones in the tents If you mean the Facility West of Rosewood that's deep in the Forest that's because it's NOT a Base! The best stuff is the military clothing/backpack (and helmet) cause of the extra protection and carry weight. Now I didn’t stay long enough to make a base but food isn’t really there unless you clear out the dense forest and start a farm.

First you would have to kill every zombie there (a LOT of zombies) and the road there is agonising to drive on, but it's a good place to settle and live off farming/foraging and not traveling as much. It's really a 1/10 base. Maybe 2/10, as it at least has a mostly intact wall. Other than that, it really has nothing going for it.

I finally went to the military base yesterday after 1400 hours. The trip there was fun, dangerous and kinda creepy. I barely survived. So in that sense it was worth the trip. The base itself was a big nothing. A decent horde to kill off but no food, weapons, or cool anything's.
