An early TPK is fine. A TPK that the DM spins into a sequel is fine. A TPK where the DM makes everyone feel like epic heroes who still somehow saved the world is fine. A whole ass party of disappointed players at the end of a 28+ session story line is a failure of storytelling and blaming dice is an abdication of responsibility.
