On the older Glocks there was a 3 letter date code on the barrel - not part of the serial number. This date code identified the production date but Glock stopped putting these on the guns a long time ago. In this picture you can see the serial number on the left and the date code "BTT" on the right hand side of the barrel.

I purchased a slide that I have not seen a close up of yet at an excellent price. The guys says it has one alpha and 4 numerals in the serial number and 2 stamps in between the slide serrations and ejector.
