It allows you to see any building, especially Gas Stations. The map is very detailed and gives you all the help you need, even with other building types.The one with the good loot is north of Rosewood, towards the middle of the map. There's a dirt road leading to 8 houses with a barracks next to it. That one has the good military stuff. Something else that nobody mentioned is that the barracks are full of beds, which can be disassembled for a lot of Carpentry XP.
