Known for his breathtaking landscape paintings of the American West, Bierstadt is also the artist of one of the BMA’s most beloved, most important, and most photographed works in our collection!In the summer of 1856, during a four-year period of study in Europe, Bierstadt joined several American colleagues on a sketching trip.
