I found a 1897 take down Winchester for a little over $500. It was an original long barrel full choke gun that was already cut down to a riot gun length. The main part I was missing was / is the bayonet mount heat shield that clamps to the barrel. The main source of the reproductions was a man in Georgia that died a few years back.The original 1897 trench had grooves filed into the barrel to accommodate the screws. The barrel needs the grooves cut in it (as the originals). These grooves are what keep the shield in place under recoil. Without them, it will eventually slide forward.
